Back to writing!

Time flies.

The last time I actually wrote something was in October 2016. That was five months ago. No, I haven't been lazy, in case you were wondering.

A lot has been happening. I thought it would be prudent to take a break and do some actual self-care.

A number of friends, family, and online acquaintances know that I've been working through Postpartum Anxiety. It's no fun, and yet, it's so common - though easily hidden. Fortunately, I didn't have to take medication for this as my husband has been my rock through this period of time. It's considerably better than it was two months ago, and I'm feeling so much like myself lately.

I don't have many photos of myself with my girls - need to change that!

On January 25th, #BellLetsTalk had their annual mental health media campaign. I braved the waves and decided to share what's been going on. It was both a freeing and unnerving experience. At first, I felt incredibly embarrassed, then empowered, then a sense of complete relief.

Self care is important for anyone, a parent, whether new or experienced. I re-learned slowly to get engaged with the things that I love, or try out new things. That includes:

-Actually taking the time to purge a bunch of junk from my basement. So far, 25% of it has been sold on Varagesale (my area's version of an online garage sale, much more popular than craigslist). It feels good to get some cash for the junk and put it towards our vacation jar.

-Purchasing an Instant Pot. I cannot rave about this magic pot enough! (I didn't pay the full price tag, it was a Black Friday deal). Spaghetti Bolognese. Homemade yogurt. Slurp.
Love this!

-Getting out. Even if it's just for a couple of hours. Sometimes I'll take an extra 5 minutes in the shower if I can.

-Baking. Each week I've learned a new baking recipe. Last week was carrot bread. This week is banana bread. Apple Turnovers. Or maybe even brownies. Much cheaper and fresher than hauling myself to the bakery!

-Spending time with my daughters. It is only in the last couple of weeks that I've really looked around and thought: gee I have an amazing family. My 3 year old is pretty generous (most of the time), and my 8 month old is so easygoing!

-Watching Bad Moms. Highly recommended for any mom feeling a little bit down on herself!

Even though I wasn't in my 'best' place at the time, I can see love in there (photo currently hanging over our fireplace) Photo credit: Larissa Eileen Photography
Take care of yourself. Reach out to others. There's so much to be thankful for.

Today, I'm thankful for family and the beautiful sunshine flooding my living room as I write.
